The UK's Patent Office has reduced its fees for patent examinations from £130 to £70. This will cut the administrative cost of obtaining a UK patent by 21% to £225. Under the office's fast-track route (see Clinica No 662, p 3), it is possible to obtain a patent in under a year in some cases.
