NU SKIN MUST SUPPORT PRODUCT CLAIMS WITH "COMPETENT AND RELIABLE EVIDENCE," including scientific data "when appropriate," under a proposed consent agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced Jan. 10. The agreement prohibits the multi-level marketing company from "making any representation, directly or by implication, regarding the performance, benefits, efficacy or safety of any product or service...unless at the time of making such representation," the firm or its representatives "possess and rely upon competent and reliable evidence, which when appropriate must be competent and reliable evidence, that substantiates the representation."
