Executive Summary
Three-product skin care collection will bow in April. Face Complex contains the alpha hydroxy acid lactic acid rather than glycolic acid, which is used in Avon's other Anew products. Within two to four weeks, Face Complex is said to "improve skin's texture to minimize shaving irritation, create a smoother surface for maximum razor 'glide' and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles," the firm states. Skin Soothing Lotion, formulated with SPF 6 sunscreen, "works to soothe skin from shaving irritation," Avon says. All of the products are fragrance-free. The items are packaged in metallic gray bottles with blue lettering. Face Complex is priced at $15.50 for 2 oz., Skin Soothing Lotion is $10.50 for 3 oz., and Foaming Shave Gel is $5.50 for 4.4 oz. Avon introduced its first Anew product in February 1992

ModiFace launches forecasting tool: Toronto-based virtual makeover firm introduces ShadeCast, a makeup sampling and forecasting tool based on behavioral tracking. ShadeCast is used in conjunction with iPhone application MakeUp, which allows consumers to virtually try on makeup in hundreds of shades from brands including Revlon, Cover Girl, Lancome and Clinique. ShadeCast offers 1,000 cosmetic shades from 40 brands and assigns a ShadeScore "to approximately position the [app's] hottest and most sampled color." ModiFace exec Nikkie Gatto likens the app to radio music playlists, helping consumers "looking to capture the current look, but also provide vital market intelligence to our retail channel partners," she says in Nov. 3 release. "The value of data to demonstrate the aggregate behavior will help the industry predict the latest trends and help cosmetic manufacturers better understand the color and products which most resonate with online and iPhone virtual makeover users," the company says
