MARY KAY RELAUNCHING DAY RADIANCE FOUNDATIONS

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

MARY KAY RELAUNCHING DAY RADIANCE FOUNDATIONS in 18 shades that allow the customer to select a foundation that exactly matches her skin tone, the firm said. In 1992, Mary Kay Cosmetics measured the skin tones of a nationwide group of women whose skin ranged from very fair to ebony using a portable computer. The skin tones were plotted on a chart and arranged by likeness into 18 groups, and Mary Kay developed a foundation shade for each group. The shades fall into three color categories -- ivory, beige and bronze -- and have neutral undertones "to prevent them from appearing too pink, too red/orange or ashy on the skin," Mary Kay explained. Formerly, Mary Kay's foundation line had 13 shades.
