OTC ANTIMICROBIAL PRODUCT EFFICACY TESTING PROCEDURES

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

OTC ANTIMICROBIAL PRODUCT EFFICACY TESTING PROCEDURES proposed by FDA "are not appropriate for measuring the efficacy of many consumer,...institutional and industrial antimicrobial products currently available over-the-counter," a coalition of industry associations told FDA in an Aug. 25 letter. Written in response to the June 17 antimicrobial tentative final monograph, the letter from the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association, the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association and the Soap and Detergent Association asks FDA to extend deadlines for submitting comments and data on the TFM by six months.
