PLAYTEX SALES GAIN 10.8% TO $122.3 MIL. IN THE THIRD QUARTER (ended Sept. 24), driven by "strong" performances by its major product lines, the company said. Third quarter net earnings were $10.8 mil. compared to a net loss of $114.6 mil. in the 1993 period, when the company had a $121.6 mil. write-off of excess cost related to its acquisition of Jhirmack in the early 1980s and $29.3 mil. in interest expense. Operating earnings for the 1994 third quarter were $38 mil., compared to an operating loss of $84.9 mil. in the year-earlier period.
