DEP SKIN CARE SALES JUMP 17% IN THE FIRST QUARTER (ended Oct. 31), the Los Angeles-based company said in a Dec. 7 release. Dep attributed the skin care segment growth to gains by each of its brands, "led by double-digit volume growth of Porcelana and Natures Family." Dep began an ad/promo program for Natures Family in October with print ads and couponing ("The Rose Sheet" June 20, p. 6). The line was extended with three shower and bath gels containing alpha hydroxy acids and its packaging was "updated" in July. The Porcelana fade cream line added two formulas -- one containing AHAs and another with AHAs and sunscreens -- in June.
