CABOT LABORATORIES HAIR BOTANICALS LAUNCHING IN MASS DOORS IN JUNE, the Central Islip, NY-based firm said. Touted as "plant therapies for healthy hair," the four products -- Purifying Shampoo, Volumizing Tonic, Styling Gel and Thermal Styling Shield -- "detoxify, volumize, style and repair hair through the power of plants," according to the company.

The Hair Botanicals line will be available in single application packs priced at 99 [cents] apiece. Each white pack is decorated with a photograph of a botanical ingredient and a black box within which Cabot Hair Botanicals is written in white. Teal lettering at the base of the packet identifies the formula.

The shampoo contains lemon grass and mint, "natural astringents" that remove residue and "stimulate the hair follicle," Cabot said. The volumizing tonic, with cherry bark and horsetail, is positioned as a hair thickener that "penetrates the hair shaft to swell each individual hair" enhancing body and volume.

According to Cabot, the alcohol-free styling gel contains a "conditioning blend" of yarrow and sage as well as vitamins A and E to "nourish and rehydrate" hair. Rounding out the line, the thermal styling shield incorporates 15 plant-derived amino acids, pro-vitamin B5, keratin and sunscreen. Promoted as a "hair protector and renewal treatment," the heat-activated styling formula "penetrates the cortex to replace moisture," fix split ends and strengthen hair, Cabot stated.

Cabot also is relanching its Vitamin E lipstick and lipgloss line in September with new colors, formulations, and packaging, the company announced.

The color range is being expanded to capitalize on the "industry-wide...shift from frosts to cremes" as well as the "recent fashion trend...to a softer `un-madeup'" look that includes more brown, nude and beige lip colors, Cabot said. With the broader color selection, the lipstick line will have 32 SKUs including: creme shades Beige-e, Woods-e and Sultr-e; shimmer shades Bronze-e and Ritz-e; and the matte shades Natural-e and Sex-e. The lipglosses will be available in "full coverage" colors such as Nut-e and Cinnamon-e and sheers such as Fudge-e and Flirt-e.

The "therapeutic" lip products have been reformulated to include additional "lip softening" vitamin E, and to last "up to eight long hours," the company said. Packaging for the relaunch includes new graphics for a "simple, clean, contemporary" look, Cabot noted. The lipstick tubes are silver with black lettering, a black base and a clear lid revealing the product shade; the lipglosses are packed in clear bottles with silver-handled wand applicators. The lipsticks will cost $2.95 while the lipgloss will retail for $3.25.

Cabot will support the lipstick/lipgloss relaunch with print advertisements accompanied by a $1-off coupon breaking in the July issue of Self magazine. Ads for the Cabot family of products will continue to appear in Self through 1996, the firm added.

Cabot also has extended its Clear Perfection corrective makeup line with Total Cover, a foundation containing 4% alpha hydroxy acids to "improve skin clarity," the company said. The product also includes vitamins A, C, and E, which act as "natural emollients and free radical neutralizers, according to Cabot, and vitamin K to "reduce undereye circles." In stores now, Total Cover is available in seven shades and is priced at $6.
