AVON EXPECTS NEW $40 MIL. MANUFACTURING PLANT IN CHINA to be up and running by the first quarter of 1997. The direct-sales cosmetics company announced Aug. 24 that its Chinese subsidiary plans to begin construction of the plant during the third quarter of this year in Conghua in Southern China. "Most of the products" manufactured at the facility will be sold in China. The new plant will replace a leased facility used by Avon in Guangzhou, China.
