Archipelago: English Botanical Collection aromatherapy products will launch in January, according to the company. Currently, the one-year old firm is expanding distribution of its first aromatherapy collection Archipelago to Jacobson's. Initially launched in July in Saks Fifth Avenue stores across the nation, Archipelago is a line of "real aromatherapy" products that contain pure essential oils instead of synthetic oils. Archipelago comprises bath oils, body lotions, bath salts, soaps and candles in four fragrances. Paradise Euphoria with vanilla, ylang ylang, bergamot and florals is "an antidepressant" while the "more masculine" Tropical Serenity fragrance with pine, spruce and cedarwood "strengthens your mind [and] makes you feel stronger, then serene," the firm says. Island Ecstasy is "calming and soothing" while Exotic Renewal is "refreshing and stimulate[ing]." The products are being featured in the holiday gift guides for Redbook, Sassy and Essence and are priced between $30 for the 6 oz. candles to $38 for the 16 oz. salts...

ModiFace launches forecasting tool: Toronto-based virtual makeover firm introduces ShadeCast, a makeup sampling and forecasting tool based on behavioral tracking. ShadeCast is used in conjunction with iPhone application MakeUp, which allows consumers to virtually try on makeup in hundreds of shades from brands including Revlon, Cover Girl, Lancome and Clinique. ShadeCast offers 1,000 cosmetic shades from 40 brands and assigns a ShadeScore "to approximately position the [app's] hottest and most sampled color." ModiFace exec Nikkie Gatto likens the app to radio music playlists, helping consumers "looking to capture the current look, but also provide vital market intelligence to our retail channel partners," she says in Nov. 3 release. "The value of data to demonstrate the aggregate behavior will help the industry predict the latest trends and help cosmetic manufacturers better understand the color and products which most resonate with online and iPhone virtual makeover users," the company says
