FRENCH FRAGRANCES DALIMIX UNISEX SCENT TO DEBUT IN U.S. IN SPRING 1997, following the European launch of the Salvador Dali-inspired fragrance in May 1996, the firm said. French Fragrances, which handles U.S. distribution for Paris-based Parfums Salvador Dali, plans to launch Dalimix into specialty stores and some department stores, including J.C. Penney and Sears. Other scents in the Salvador Dali portfolio include Salvador Dali Classic women's and men's scents launched in 1986 and 1987, respectively; Salvador men's scent (1992); and Laguna (1990) and Dalissime (1994) women's scents.

ModiFace launches forecasting tool: Toronto-based virtual makeover firm introduces ShadeCast, a makeup sampling and forecasting tool based on behavioral tracking. ShadeCast is used in conjunction with iPhone application MakeUp, which allows consumers to virtually try on makeup in hundreds of shades from brands including Revlon, Cover Girl, Lancome and Clinique. ShadeCast offers 1,000 cosmetic shades from 40 brands and assigns a ShadeScore "to approximately position the [app's] hottest and most sampled color." ModiFace exec Nikkie Gatto likens the app to radio music playlists, helping consumers "looking to capture the current look, but also provide vital market intelligence to our retail channel partners," she says in Nov. 3 release.
