Executive Summary

FEDERAL ANTICOUNTERFEITING REGS TO BE DEVELOPED BY JANUARY 1997 by the Treasury Department, following the signing of the "Anti-counterfeiting Protection Act of 1996" into law by President Clinton July 2. The measure directs the Secretary of the Treasury to "prescribe such regulations or amendments to existing regulations" no later than six months after the enactment of the measure. The law makes selling counterfeit goods a predicate crime under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) ("The Rose Sheet" Aug. 14, 1995, p. 7).
