Dusa licensed the rights to the compound from the University of Toronto, and Orland, Calif.-based melanin specialty company MeL-Co developed the compound for Dusa. MeL-Co plans to market Lipomelanin-LQ to cosmetic and hair care companies for use in semi-permanent dyes, coloring shampoos and coloring creme rinses, Dusa said. The firm is positioning the compound as an alternative to "coal tar derived black hair dye ingredients," which according to the company, "have been found to cause cancer in laboratory animals"...
