Helen of Troy: El Paso, Tex.-based personal care appliance marketer purchases North American rights to Dr. Scholl's brand foot baths, foot massagers and body massagers and Dazey, Lady Dazey and Lady Carel "hard hat salon" hair dryers and "Turbo Spa" products, from Kansas City, Mo.-based Dazey Corp., Helen of Troy announced Oct. 7. Dazey has held licensing rights to Schering-Plough's Dr. Scholl's brandname for massage products for about 10 years and needed clearance from the foot care marketer before entering into the Helen of Troy deal. The buy will allow "further market penetration within personal care products," Helen of Troy Chairman and CEO Gerald Rubin said. Helen of Troy markets Vidal Sassoon hair care appliances and Revlon hairbrushes and hair appliances through mass merchandisers, drug chains, warehouse clubs and grocery stores. Helen of Troy net earnings for the six-months ended Aug. 31 totaled $6.5 mil., an increase of 28.9%, on sales of $94.3 mil. (up 23.7%)...
