Executive Summary

SHISEIDO PURCHASE OF HELENE CURTIS PROFESSIONAL HAIR CARE DIVISION ADDS $65 MIL. in annual sales to the Tokyo-based cosmetics company. Under a definitive agreement announced Nov. 6, Shiseido will acquire certain rights and assets to Unilever's Helene Curtis professional hair products business in the U.S. and Canada. The deal will not include the Helene Curtis mark or the professional hair care businesses in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Italy, Shiseido noted. Unilever announced it was considering spinning off the business earlier this year ("The Rose Sheet" May 6, In Brief). The acquisition is expected to close by year-end.
