French Fragrances: Sales for the third quarter up 61.1% to $60.8 mil. from $37.7 mil. in the prior-year period, the company reported Nov. 20. Net earnings more than doubled to $6 mil. from $2.5 mil. during the third quarter of 1996. Third quarter results reflect French Fragrance's acquisition of the Halston fragrance brands in March and the Fragrance Marketing Group in May, the company said. French Fragrances intends to "continue [to] invest in these and other classic brands as opportunities present themselves." Increases in sales and income were partially offset by interest and amortization expenses resulting from the purchases. For the nine-month period, sales advanced 52% to $103.9 mil. from $68.4 mil. and net earnings nearly tripled to $7 mil. from $2.5 mil. in the third quarter of 1995...
