Executive Summary

Mass. recycling bills: State "green dot" bill (H 1552) and recycled content bill (H 4278) pass joint Senate/House Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee May 14. The bills advance to the House floor for an unscheduled second reading. They will then either be referred to another committee for review, or pass on for a third reading and House vote. H 1552, sponsored by Rep. Douglas Peterson (D-Dist. 8), institutes a voluntary labeling program allowing consumer product manufacturers to place a green dot on packaging that meets a state-established minimum recycled content requirement. H 4278, sponsored by Rep. Pamela Resor (D-Dist. 14) requires, manufacturers to list the amount of recycled material contained in a package.
