Executive Summary
BIOACTIVE MARINE AGENTS IN SKIN CARE, COSMETICS ARE OPPORTUNITY for the industry to develop a unique range of products that play up a "link" with the "diverse" ocean environment, University of California at San Diego Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine Director William Fenical, PhD, suggested at the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association's annual scientific conference in Atlantic City Oct. 26-29. The ocean, Fenical said, is "a frontier for the development of very different kinds of new additives for skin care and cosmetics" that can be used in a "variety of [bioactive] applications" including sunscreen agents, anti-inflammatory properties and antifungals, as well as color additives and emulsifiers.
