This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

FRAGRANCE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON "GRADUALLY DIMINISHING" IN STRENGTH as the tradition loses its "tantalizing force" with consumers, Barnard Retail Trends Report President Kent Barnard said at the Fragrance Foundation's 1997 State of the Industry: Exultations & Laments seminar in New York City Jan. 27. Although the 1997 Christmas season appears to have been a success, Barnard noted that holiday shopping seasons "are no longer as reliable as they used to be."
