This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

"PARTNER SCENTS" ACCOUNT FOR NEARLY HALF OF 1997 FRAGRANCE SALES, indicating the growing popularity of "master brand" fragrances, NPD BeautyTrends VP-General Manager Karyn Schoenbart reported at the Jan. 27 Fragrance Foundation 1997 State of the Industry: Exultations and Lamentations year-end review in New York City. Presenting full-year data for prestige fragrance sales in department stores, Schoenbart deemed men's versions of women's scents and vice versa "really hot." These fragrances represented 45% of sales in 1997, up from 27% in 1996, she said. Port Washington, N.Y.-based NPD BeautyTrends tracks the beauty business in department stores nationwide.
