Renova beach scene "reminder" ad implies unapproved use for sun damaged skin -- FDA.

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

J&J RENOVA "REMINDER" AD MAKES REPRESENTATION ABOUT USE AS ANTI-WRINKLE CREAM, FDA's Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising & Communications informed Johnson & Johnson in an Aug. 18 notice of violation letter. After reviewing a beach scene reminder advertisement for J&J's prescription Renova (tretinoin emollient cream 0.05%), the agency determined the spot "makes a representation about the use of Renova, making it a full product advertisement." The review was part of the division's "routine monitoring of prescription drug advertising," FDA said. Renova was approved Dec. 29, 1995 and became available in February 1996.
