Anticipates taking $14.1 mil. loss in fourth quarter in connection with the sale of Cutex nail polisher remover and nail implements business to The Cutex Company, Carson reports in Dec. 24 8-K filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission. The ethnic marketer sold intellectual property, inventory and equipment to the San Francisco-based start-up for $30 mil. Dec. 9 ("The Rose Sheet" Dec. 14, 1998, In Brief). Under the deal, The Cutex Company retains the option of purchasing the Cutex nail enamel and treatment business, on or before June 9. Carson has said it does not view Cutex as a strategic part of the company's business and put the brand up for sale in June ("The Rose Sheet" June 8, 1998, p. 3)
