Executive Summary

Skin care sales increase 14.5% to $214.2 mil. through the first half, the company reported Aug. 5. The "strong" growth worldwide is attributable to new Clarins sun care products, Body Lift 2000 and Contouring Facial Lift. Cosmetics sales were up 4% to $38.5 mil., somewhat affected by difficult comparisons stemming from the first half 1998 launch of Sheer Shimmer, the company said. Fragrance sales increased 2.5% to $92.8 mil.; excluding distribution activities, sales were up 5.2%. With the upcoming launch of the Azzura women's scent, sales for the brand should increase 10% for the full year, Clarins predicted. Consolidated sales increased 10.3% to $369.6 mil
