Executive Summary

First quarter sales increase 13.2% to $525.8 mil., Alberto-Culver reports Jan. 27. Earnings jump 44.1% to $26.8 mil. Income results include the $10 mil. sale of a trademark used in Europe by Alberto's Indola professional hair care unit. The sale resulted in a one-time gain of $6 mil. after income taxes of $3.2 mil.
