Executive Summary

North Acton, U.K. manufacturing facility to close March 2001, the Unilever company announces June 20. The 88,500 sq. ft. facility produces roughly 30 mil. units annually. Fragrances, which represent 70% of North Acton production, will be moved to a third-party location closer to Elizabeth Arden's distribution center in Lille, France. Skin care manufacturing will be relocated to the company's Roanoke, Va. site. The move is a result of a three-month cost-effectiveness study of the North Acton plant. Arden "has been operating at a disadvantage" in that most supplies must be imported from mainland Europe and then shipped back for distribution. Approximately 150 employees will be affected
