Executive Summary

Energizer is seeking an injunction preventing Gillette from marketing Mach3,Mach3Turbo and Venus razors, according to complaint filed in Hartford, Conn. federal court Feb. 13. Energizer contends the Gillette razor brands infringe patents, issued Nov. 20, 2001, May 28, 2002 and July 1, 2003, which cover the firm's "disposable razor with removable razor head." In addition to the injunction, Energizer is requesting monetary damages. A trial date has not been set. Energizer filed a separate lawsuit against Gillette in October, seeking to bar superiority claims used in ads for firm's Mach3 and Sensor3 brands (1"The Rose Sheet" Oct. 6, 2003, p. 8). Gillette filed its own patent infringement suit against Energizer last August; the firm suffered a setback in January when a Boston federal court judge denied a preliminary injunction seeking to remove Energizer's Schick Quattro razor from the U.S. market...
