OECD Alternative Methods To Replace Existing Animal Test

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the international group charged with finding alternatives to animal tests, plans to eliminate animal test TG 401 and replace it with a revised Up-and-Down Procedure (TG 425) and two other testing methods in July, the National Toxicology Program Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods said Nov. 28.

ECVAM Conducting Studies On Alternatives To Animal Eye Test

The European Centre for Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) will be conducting several studies on reference chemicals in late 1998 as one step in resolving the "impasse" in replacing the Draize animal eye irritation test with an in vitro alternative, Manfred Liebsch, PhD, deputy head of Germany's Centre for Documentation and Evaluation of Alternatives to Animal Testing (ZEBET), said.
