Executive Summary

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman resigns from her post, effective Jan. 21, USDA announces Nov. 15. Department declines to comment on why Veneman resigned or speculate on possible replacements. During her tenure, which began in 2001, Veneman presided over a dispute between USDA and the Organic Trade Association over whether personal care products can be certified under the National Organic Program.
