Canadian cosmetics regulation

Executive Summary
Health Canada publishes amendments to the Cosmetic Regulations establishing mandatory ingredient disclosure in product labeling Dec. 1 in the Canada Gazette, Part II. Effective Nov. 16, 2006, rule includes requirements that companies using English ingredient names on labeling in place of trivial names must also include a French translation and references the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association's International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook, 10th edition. Proposed amendments were published in March in Part I of the Canada Gazette, and Health Canada recently released select comments received on the proposal and measures that were being taken to address industry concerns (1"The Rose Sheet" Nov. 29, 2004, p. 8). The Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association says it will work with member companies to ease implementation of the new requirements.
