Executive Summary

Motion for European Parliament resolution on the European Commission Environment & Health Action Plan 2004-2010 is approved during a Feb. 23 plenary session. Authored by Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety member Frederique Ries, the report proposes a number of amendments to the plan, such as recommendation that EC give "urgent consideration" to restricting the marketing and use of substances like phthalates. The plan also should initiate a biomonitoring system to measure exposure to environmental contaminants in relation to infectious diseases, motion states. The EC's environment and health plan, released last fall, comprises 13 action items, including development of a "coherent biomonitoring program"...
