Executive Summary

Evaluation of stocks and strains currently used in the National Toxicology Program rodent cancer bioassay will be the focus of an NTP workshop June 16-17 at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, N.C., NIEHS announces in April 4 Federal Register 1notice. Discussion aims to find ways to improve bioassay's ability to identify substances that may be carcinogenic to humans, agency says. Workshop also will seek input on whether NTP should continue to use both the F344 rat and B6C3F1 mouse models. Following the meeting, NTP will present proposed testing strategies to the NTP Board of Scientific Counselors, according to the NIEHS. Comments on the appropriateness of the mouse models may be submitted to the NIEHS/NTP staff until May 19.
