Beauty site sales during the first quarter of fiscal year 2007 were up 40% over the prior-year period, spurred by growth of 30 new prestige beauty brands over the past six months, Drugstore.com reports during April 25 earnings call. The company is focusing on the natural beauty market by placing a "Naturals" tab on the Beauty.com homepage and by adding natural brands such as Dr. Hauschka to the firm's prestige offerings. Beauty, which accounts for 29% of OTC sales for Drugstore.com, represents "a huge market opportunity," President and CEO Dawn G. Lapore says, noting sales will continue to be driven by a redesign of Beauty.com that includes adding new search capabilities. The revamped site will launch by the fourth quarter, the exec stated.
