Ingredient supplier Symrise has extended its organic botanicals offering to include a line of water-soluble plant extracts certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Organic Program. Symrise is now the exclusive distributor of Bayliss Ranch's AllPlant Essence botanicals line under a partnership with the California extract producer that went into effect July 1. "Consumers are increasingly aware of their social and ecological responsibility. They want products made of natural, sustainable and environmentally compatible substances," says Dr. Klaus Stanzl, Symrise president, scent & care, global life essentials. The technique by which Bayliss Ranch derived its AllPlant Essence range is a "protected trade secret," Symrise says. "This special method of steam extraction captures the volatile aromatic constituents of plants," such as lavender, rose, geranium, sage and peppermint. The result has various applications for personal care, including bath, oral-care, skin and hair-care products. "With Bayliss Ranch, we have found a partner that supports our goals in an ideal way: not only by guaranteeing top quality for our clients, but by demonstrating responsibility for the resources our products are based on," Stanzl says. In addition to distributing AllPlant Essence, Symrise will work with Bayliss Ranch to develop new organic plant-based ingredients, it says. Symrise's organic portfolio also includes its Extrapone / Neo Extrapone and Actipone / Neo Actipone products, which were certified by Ecocert in May. In March, Judith Gross, global director of fragrance innovation at International Flavors and Fragrances, indicated that the company would look to enlarge its naturals portfolio to achieve long-term growth (1 (Also see "IFF Innovation Team To Create New Growth Opportunities In Saturated Market" - HBW Insight, 31 Mar, 2008.), p. 8). Raw materials supplier Cognis announced in July that 30 of its cosmetic oils, emulsifiers and surfactants have been certified natural (2 'The Rose Sheet' July 7, 2008, In Brief). - Louisa Tavlas ([email protected]) |
