Derma e targets skin infections: New Skinbiotics Treatment Crème and Treatment Oil helps to soothe insect bites, rashes and abrasions and combats fungal and bacterial infections, natural skin-care company derma e says. Pointing to recent studies identifying increases in head and neck and skin and soft-tissue infections associated with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) - the "superbug" that has been found in hospitals and schools nationwide - derma e notes that its Skinbiotics products enjoy the antiseptic benefits of eco-friendly tea tree oil and organic oregano oil. Tea tree oil "helps eradicate the increasingly resistant bacteria MRSA often found in hospitals," according to the company, and organic oregano offers defense against Staphylococcus aureus and the fungus Candida albicans, overgrowth of which can cause life-threatening infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. "In light of recent events, derma e strongly believes that Skinbiotics utilizes the perfect combination of naturally powerful ingredients to help fight serious skin problems," VP Linda Miles says. While tea tree oil has been embraced by many in the natural/organic sector, the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Consumer Products has requested more data on the ingredient order to form an opinion on its safety; tea tree oil has been linked to adverse health effects including allergic reactions of varying severity (1"The Rose Sheet" Jan. 26, 2009, p. 3)
