Unilever creates personal-care unit

Unilever will close its Chicago offices by July 2010, combining the antiperspirants, deodorant and hair-care group based there with skin care to form a single personal-care division based at its Englewood Cliffs, N.J., North American headquarters, firm announced Nov. 10. "Over the last few years, we have made significant progress in bringing Unilever teams together in North America," Unilever Americas President Michael B. Polk states in a release. "The decision to create a single [personal-care] unit within the U.S. business is in line with this progress, and will leverage the resources and capabilities across our [personal-care] brands to drive further growth." The firm, which markets brands including Axe, Dove and Vaseline, has "integrated a number of businesses" between 2006 and 2009 to leverage resources and drive growth, the release notes
