EPA opens TSCA chemical inventory online

Executive Summary
As part of EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson's "commitment to increase information on chemicals" and intent to boost transparency "while continuing to push for legislative reform," EPA is providing information about approximately 67,000 chemicals in the Toxic Substances Control Act Chemical Substance Inventory free of charge through its Web site and Data.gov. Previously, the inventory was only available for purchase through various databases. There are more than 84,000 chemicals in the inventory, but EPA cannot publically identify 17,000 of them, as they are claimed as Confidential Business Information by manufacturers under TSCA, according to a release. EPA is pushing to reduce Confidential Business Information claims, the agency says
