Green Seal Is Newest Eco-Decoration, Covering “Whole Product Life-Cycle”

Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit Green Seal is touting its new standard for personal care and cosmetics as the first of its kind in the U.S. to cover product performance and the whole product lifecycle.

Safety science company UL is drafting a safety standard for personal care, with the goal of helping industry better communicate to consumers that their products and ingredients have been rigorously assessed for safety. The firm aims to release a draft standard by the end of 2015, and a finalized consensus-based standard one year later.
Beginning later this month, personal-care marketers will be able to pursue a label identifying their product as "USDA Certified Biobased" under a final rule issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Jan. 20.
