Dietary supplement certification program standards published July 9, organization notes at Nutracon. Program standards include criteria to measure quality and quantity of supplement ingredients, acceptable levels of contaminants. Twelve supplement products currently are being tested by NSF, group says; more tests to follow soon. NDMA Canada
Dietary supplement quality certification logo program being weighed by trade group in response to launches of USP and NSF efforts in U.S. Group seeks to determine member companies' interest in value of developing similar program for Canadian market or joining U.S. efforts. Two previous attempts to start logo programs in Canada have failed. Certification program could benefit Canadian market as full implementation of premarket approval and enforcement regs for dietary supplements is estimated for 2004, NDMAC notes. USP Supplement Certification Program Advisory Group Forming
A USP Industry Advisory Group of representatives from the pharmacopeia, FDA and industry will meet in March to begin finalizing the design of USP's dietary supplement quality certification program.
