Executive Summary

Calcium in Lane Labs' supplement, which combines oyster shell with an algal ingredient, is better absorbed than calcium carbonate, Takuo Fujita, et al., Calcium Research Institute, Osaka and National Sanatorium Hyogo Chuo Hospital, Japan, report in a poster presentation. AdvaCal appears to be effective in increasing BMD in osteoporosis and osteopenia alone and in conjunction with drugs, the Japanese researchers say. Lane Labs has cited Fujita's work in its promotions for AdvaCal (1"The Tan Sheet" Nov. 8, 1999, p. 16)
