Executive Summary
Headed by Jurg Witmer following the immediate departure of CEO Kuno Sommer in the aftermath of parent Roche's settlement with the Department of Justice over past pricing practices in its vitamins and fine chemicals division, Roche announces May 20. Sommer was the director of marketing at the vitamins and fine chemicals division until the end of 1997. Also exiting the company is the head of the division, Roland Bronnimann. Witmer joined Roche in 1978. He most recently served as general manager of Roche Austria. The settlement resolves a criminal investigation of a number of European and Japanese manufacturers of mostly bulk vitamins for price fixing between 1990 and 1999. Roche said criminal investigations continue involving Sommer and Bronnimann as well as two other individuals
