FDA budget

Senate cloture vote to end debate on Agriculture Appropriations bill (S 1233), which includes the FDA FY 2000 budget, is expected the week of July 12. A cloture vote proposed by Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) failed June 28 (1"The Rose Sheet" June 28, In Brief). Cloture was primarily rejected because of attempts by the Democrats to attach a Patients Bill of Rights amendment to the bill. Appropriations are expected to move forward; Sen. Lott and Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) came to an agreement establishing the Patients Bill of Rights as a stand-alone bill
