Parfums Christian Dior DiorSnow anti-melanin skin care line creates a clear, even and luminous porcelain-like complexion without dark spots and skin irregularities after four to eight weeks of use, the LVMH firm said. Whitening Airy Emulsion, a daily complement to the DiorSnow range, was found to increase skin radiance 21% after four weeks and 52% after eight weeks, according to dermatologists who evaluated 20 Japanese women using the product. Enlightening Whitening Day Essence, tested on 30 Japanese women, provided an 11% improvement in skin radiance after four weeks and a 17% increase after eight weeks, according to the company. Consumer evaluation of the products suggested an even higher improvement level with 26% and 44% increases after four and eight weeks, respectively, Dior said. Although the four-SKU line, which also includes Radiance Whitening Lotion and Aqua Powder Whitening Cleanser, was tested only on Japanese women and already is available and "well accepted" in Japan, the line will be targeted to women of all ethnicities when it launches in the U.S. in May. Snow is appropriate "for anyone who wants a clearer more even skin tone," Dior said, noting the line does not create "whiter" skin. "It is appropriate for all skin types, all ages and all races," the firm stressed. Snow, which stands for Skin New Oligonucleotide Whitener, was developed through research into skin pigmentation irregularities, the firm said. Products are formulated with the antioxidant hypotaurin to fight against skin discoloration and vitamin C as a whitening agent. Products range in price from $27.50-$85. Part of a growing U.S. beauty trend, skin whitening products have been used for years in Asia, where such items comprise 60%-65% of the beauty care market, according to Yue-Sai Kan Cosmetics CEO Leo Lui (1 (Also see "Skin Lightening Products Brighten Asian Beauty Care Market" - HBW Insight, 19 Jun, 2000.)). One recent entry into the U.S. market, Shiseido's UV White skin whitening products, are rolling out to Saks Fifth Avenue after a September debut in Nordstrom's and the company is planning further expansion. Similarly, DiorSnow will debut in limited distribution in Macy's, Liberty House and Robinson's/May West Coast locations. |
