Executive Summary
European Commission approves symbol indicating how long products with shelf life of 30 months or more are suitable for use after being opened, EC announces Sept. 5. Symbol of open cream jar and length of time products are suitable for use must be added to labeling by March 11, 2005. Condition is first requirement of Seventh Amendment to the Cosmetics Directive to be adopted since law was passed in February (1"The Rose Sheet" Feb. 17, 2003, In Brief). EC notes the symbol was chosen over a written explanation to avoid need for translation, taking up labeling space. Cosmetics with a shelf life of less than 30 months are required to carry phrase "best used before the end of" in labeling...
