Avalon Organics: Petaluma, Calif. firm is rolling out reformulated versions of its personal care products over the next year developed without ingredients such as parabens, synthetic fragrances, artificial colors and "proven harmful" chemicals, company announces at Natural Products Expo East in Washington, D.C. Oct. 14-17. Relaunch is consistent with its "Consciousness in Cosmetics" principle, a commitment to produce new and reformulated products that are pure and safe, while expanding the efficacy and benefits of natural body care, Avalon says. Bath and body range will be the first to undergo reformulation, with products expected to be in stores by the end of the year. Organic Consumers Association alleges "70% organic" claims used in print ads for Avalon Organics personal care products are misleading since Avalon includes hydrosols, or non-plant water derived from steaming botanicals, as organic content.
