Executive Summary
Legislation establishing a statewide biomonitoring system is introduced Feb. 18 in the California State Senate by Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento). "Healthy Californians Biomonitoring Program" (SB 600) would require the state health department to appoint an advisory panel to assist in carrying out the program, including design and implementation, and to recommend chemicals that are priorities for biomonitoring. Department would be expected to submit a report to the legislature summarizing program's progress by Jan. 1, 2009. Measure is similar to bill SB 1168 introduced last year by Ortiz (1"The Rose Sheet" March 8, 2004, p. 4). Current legislation, however, contains more general language than SB 1168, which specified certain chemicals would be included in the program, such as triclosan...
