Executive Summary

Cooperation between the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods and the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods for developing animal alternative tests for cosmetics "needs further strengthening through bilateral contacts with the aim of mutual acceptance of alternative methods," U.S. and European Commission regulatory authorities maintain during a June 20 summit in Washington, D.C. Recommendation is presented as part of the 2005 Roadmap for U.S.-EU Regulatory Cooperation, which also states FDA and EU Directorates General for Enterprise and Industry should collaborate on issues like cosmetics labeling, standardized labeling for sunscreens and the "regulation of hair dyes in the framework of bilateral meetings" and through the multilateral Cosmetics Harmonization and International Cooperation process...
