Inter Parfums has signed an exclusive, six-year agreement to design, manufacture and supply personal-care items for women's apparel retailer bebe stores, according to a July 7 release.

"Fragrance is a natural extension of our brand," bebe CEO Gregory Scott says. "Additionally, the launch of a global fragrance in combination with our increasing international presence supports our objective to build our brand globally."

The fragrance, bath and body, and color cosmetic products will be sold in bebe locations as well as select specialty and department stores worldwide, beginning with a line of lip glosses slated to launch in time for the 2008 holiday season.

A signature fragrance will be unveiled in mid-2009, Inter Parfums says.

"We look forward to the opportunity of interpreting bebe's signature look into fragrance and cosmetics for the brand's strong, hip, sexy, and sophisticated clientele."

The deal with bebe represents a slight departure from the rest of Inter Parfums specialty retail offerings. "It's one of our true sexy brands, so it's great for our portfolio. We feel that they have a very strong name and strong management so we look forward to working with them," Clarke said.

Inter Parfums has found success in creating personal-care items for retail clothing chains such as Gap, Banana Republic, New York & Company and Brooks Brothers.

Madar said at the beginning of the year that the firm would focus on developing that business in 2008 (1 (Also see "Burberry Feels “The Beat” In 2008 With Music-Oriented Scent" - HBW Insight, 21 Jan, 2008.), p. 6).

In fiscal 2007, the company's specialty retail division drove North American sales up 15 percent (2 'The Rose Sheet' March 17, 2008, In Brief).

Inter Parfums expanded its deal with Gap Inc. this year, inking an agreement to provide Gap and Banana Republic personal care to specialty, department and duty-free retailers outside the U.S. (3 'The Rose Sheet' May 5, 2008, In Brief).
