Executive Summary
Sally Beauty Holdings acquires Pottsville, Pa.-based Schoeneman Beauty Supply for approximately $61 million through its Beauty Systems Group subsidiary, according to the firm. "We believe Schoeneman is a natural addition to our BSG business and supports our long-term objective to grow the company," says Sally CEO Gary Winterhalter. Schoeneman employs over 500 people and is projected to have revenue of $86 million to $89 million in fiscal 2009 at its 43 professional-only beauty supply stores in Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Northern Delaware and West Virginia. It carries approximately 10,000 SKUs, focusing on mid- to high-end professional beauty products

Beauty supply retailer and distributor acquires Sinelco Group NV, a Belgian-based wholesale distributor of professional beauty products, for €25.5, or about $36.6 million, firm announces Dec. 17. Sinelco specializes in products such as electricals, sundries, accessories and salon supplies, and serves more than 1,500 customers from 35 countries through its catalog, Web site and sales offices. "The addition of Sinelco, which sources many of its products in Asia, will provide us the opportunity to sell to distributors of professional products in many countries in which we lack a physical presence," Vice President Chad Selvidge says in a release. Approximately 85% of Sinelco's revenue comes from its "exclusive-label" brands, according to the firm. Sally Beauty wraps up fiscal '09
Sally Beauty Holdings reports fiscal 2009 fourth-quarter sales of $676 mil., representing an increase of 0.6% from the prior-year period, while full-year sales were down 0.4% to $2.6 bil. The company "delivered very good fourth-quarter and full-year results despite a difficult recessionary environment," President and CEO Gary Winterhalter says in recent release. Denton, Texas-based firm notes it grew its store base 3.7% in 2009 to 3,914 locations, 65 of those coming from acquisitions including Schoeneman Beauty Supply and Belleza Concept International (1"The Rose Sheet" Oct. 12, 2009; 2"The Rose Sheet" Sept. 28, 2009). Earnings increased 25.6% to $27 million for the quarter and totaled $99.1 million for the year, up 27.8%, firm reports.
