Executive Summary

Cosmetics, body care and supplement producers and handlers "could be certified under USDA final rule establishing national standards for organic ingredients and products." Published in the Dec. 21 Federal Register, the reg states makers and suppliers of agricultural items "might find an increased market value for their products because of the additional assurance afforded by certification." Under the rule, eligible products may be categorized as either "100 percent organic" for wholly organic ingredients, "organic" for 95% organically produced or "made with organic (specified ingredients or food groups)" for 70% organically produced ingredients that note the specific organic ingredients
