Friends of the Earth is requesting all records relating to a phthalates survey recently completed by the Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition's Office of Cosmetics & Colors, including the names and brands of products tested, under the Freedom of Information Act, the advocacy group states in a March 30 1letter to FDA. CFSAN's Fiscal 2004 Program Priorities Report Card, released in January, revealed the study found five phthalate esters in 32 of 48 cosmetic products analyzed. Amid growing controversy over the use of phthalates in cosmetics, FDA's Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition announced that a review of the chemicals is one of the Office of Cosmetics & Colors "A" list priorities for fiscal 2004 (ending Sept. 30)
